Practice-grade AI tools, built by a practising accountant.

I design and ship software for accounting practices — an advisory platform, bookkeeping, VAT and Making Tax Digital, practice management, and the back-office automation that runs quietly underneath. And I help other UK firms put AI to work without losing control of it.

How this began · 23/05/2026

I'm a chartered certified accountant, not a developer. I've run Finnacc since 2006, and for most of that time software was something I bought — never something I made.

That changed on 23 May 2026, when I sat down to learn how to build software with AI. The rule I set myself was simple: solve a real problem in our practice first, then see whether it could help other firms too. Fifty-two days later, everything below is the result.

I'm still very much learning. Plenty of what's here is early, there's far more in the pipeline than I've finished, and every tool keeps a person in the loop — I check the work before it goes anywhere near a client. None of it replaces judgement; it just clears the desk so there's more room for it.

What I do

Three ways I help, all pointed at the same result: less time on routine work, more on advice that clients actually pay for.

For your clients

Tools that do the work

Bookkeeping, VAT and MTD, billing, practice management and client advice — built plain, affordable and quick, so the repetitive work looks after itself and the numbers come out clean and tax-ready.

For your firm

AI adoption, done safely

I show you where AI genuinely saves hours in a practice — data entry, categorisation, first-draft reporting — and set it up with human checks that keep you compliant. No hype, no black boxes.

For a workflow

Bespoke builds

A tool for one specific job — rental accounts, CIS, car-dealer bookkeeping — specified with you in plain English, built fast, then handed over working and documented.

Building now — an advisory platform for accountants

The idea is simple. Drop in a client's paperwork, workings and financial statements. The platform reads them, runs the analysis a good accountant would run, and hands back a full advisory pack — including the client letter — drafted and ready for you to review.

It turns a job that takes a careful half-day into a first draft in minutes, so the time you keep is spent on judgement and the conversation with the client, not on assembling the analysis.

1 · Drop in the records 2 · It reads and analyses 3 · You review and sign off

Drafted, never sent. A human reviews and signs off before anything reaches a client — the same rule across everything I build.

Build log

A family of tools, all currently in use and testing inside Finnacc — our practice is the proving ground before any of them go further. Built to be simpler and more affordable than the incumbents.

Practice management — clients, companies, engagements, workflow boards and tasks. Installs and works on phone and tablet.
Live
MTD Works
Turns bank-statement PDFs into VAT and MTD ITSA figures, with gap detection and running-balance checks across merged statements.
Live
A simple cash book that keeps client records clean and ready for VAT and tax.
Live
Fast, clutter-free client billing.
Live
Ledger
Trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheet, general ledger and VAT return from entered data.
Live
An AI study companion, first built for ACCA revision, with type, photo or voice capture.
Live
Advisory platform
Drop-in client records to a full drafted advisory pack — the analysis and the letter. See above.

AVA
An in-house assistant that drafts VAT workings, rental accounts and advisory letters. Drafts only — a human always signs off.
In progress

Also in the pipeline: a rental-accounts tool (per-owner splits, FHL grouping, Excel output), PropAccounts, WorkChat, and a used-car-dealer bookkeeping module.

Skills, data and AI engineering

The reusable parts underneath the products — the skills, the knowledge base and the bookkeeping data that make the tools accurate, not just quick.

Reusable skillsPackaged, repeatable workings — VAT workings, SA105 rental accounts, bookkeeping & accounts, and advisory letters.
Knowledge base~300 practice scenarios across 10 themed libraries, plus a live tax-rates reference — the brain behind AVA.
Prompt frameworkA four-part formula — identity, context, task, output — documented and reused across every build.
Model selectionMatching the right AI model to each job — light models for quick tasks, the strongest for heavy analysis.
AgentsMulti-step workflows orchestrated with human checkpoints (in progress).
Design & mediaUI and a reusable design system, plus interactive prototypes, slides and animations for practice use.

The practice runs on automations

A lot of the day-to-day admin runs on scheduled automations I built, connected to the practice's own email, files and calendar. They run on their own and leave me a draft to check, rather than a task to start.

Morning briefing
The day's priorities, pulled together and waiting first thing.
Daily
Email intake
Overnight, client records are gathered from the inbox and drafted into shape, ready to review.
Nightly
Inbox declutter
The noise cleared and the important surfaced, so the inbox stays workable.
Daily
Post log & AI news
A running log and a short digest, so I stay current without the scrolling.
Daily
VAT folder builder
Detects each client's VAT stagger and creates the next-quarter folders and MTD summary template in Google Drive, without duplicating work.
On demand

Connectors link these to Gmail, Google Drive and Google Calendar, so the tools work on real data instead of copy-paste — always with a human check before anything goes out.

How I build

Fair pricingPriced against the market, not above it.
Plain EnglishOutputs a non-financial director can read.
Human gateAI drafts; a person reviews before anything is filed or sent.
Simple by defaultUseful, not over-featured.

Client data is handled to a written information-security policy aligned to UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Built on

For the technically minded — the tools everything runs on, and how they fit together.

Supabase

The database and login layer behind every app — hosted in the UK, so client data stays in the UK.

Vercel

Hosting and deployment. Every code change goes live automatically, with no manual server work.

GitHub / Git

Version control — every project's full history in one place, and the source I deploy from.

CMD & PowerShell

Windows command line and scripting — running Git, moving files and setting up each project.

Next.js

The web framework the apps are built in, so they're fast and work the same on every device.

AI build engine

I specify in plain English; it writes and edits the code, and I review every line before it ships.

PWA

Progressive web apps, so the tools install and run like native apps on iPhone, iPad and Android.

About

I'm Vinit Jhala, an FCCA-qualified accountant with nearly 20 years in UK practice. I run Finnacc, established in 2006, with offices in Edgware, Milton Keynes and Hoddesdon.

I build the software our practice runs on, then make it available to others. Deep tax knowledge — MTD ITSA, CIS, VAT, self assessment, corporation tax, FRS 102/105 — on one side, and AI that turns it into working tools on the other. The aim is a modern practice that runs leaner, and tools other firms can use to do the same.
